I get emails almost every week asking me to start offering Facebook apps again.  Probably because I always strived to put out applications that followed the Facebook rules but still maintained good viral results.

It’s amazing how many apps are being sold that break the Facebook guidelines and then the poor folk that bought them in good faith find their FB account closed down or the app banned.

So I will be releasing iframe versions of some of the apps I used to sell.  These will be total re-writes but if you purchased an app from me that used the old system I will give you the new version for free.

I have just listed the following on ebay: Established Facebook App.

It is an established copy of my How and When will I die application which I originally only put up as a demo and it has grown virally to a reasonable level.  If someone has the time and inclination to give it a push it will easily make more than it is now.  I have based my sale price on 12 months at the lowest revenue and am open to sensible offers!

Remember – anyone can do this.  A hosting account that can handle php and the ability to follow some fairly simple instructions and you are on your way.  Not to mention that I also offer a low-cost installation option on these apps!

A question I get asked frequently is “How can you monetize with Google Adsense ads in a Facebook application?”

Anyone who has tried will find it is not as easy as it sounds.  This is because Facebook plays about with Javascript code as it serves your pages up.  This is a security thing on their part, but it also means that a lot of standard Javascript does not function as you’d expect.

But there is a fairly easy work-around…

I spent almost five years living in the USA before returning to the UK.  While I was there I came across a guy by the name of Steve Humprey.  He is a programmer but he has this uncanny ability to be able to explain how to write and change code so that anyone can understand it.

If you are building monetized sites or you want to do your own Facebook apps then learning PHP is a very sensible step. 

But it looks so complicated doesn’t it?

It doesn’t have to be.  This is not B.S. and I highly recommend it…

Learn to use PHP in two hours.

I just wanted to show what else can easily be done using the death prediction application as a framework and in very little time.

This application http://apps.facebook.com/grannypoosticks is built using the exact same code.  All we have done is ignore the random number part which tells them how long they have to live, fill the random lines file with a collection of nutty things a mad old lady might say and replace the grim reeper image with one of a batty gran.  Finally set the app title, etc and the job is done.

The whole thing took about 15 minutes.

The key here is that you can quickly create different applications that will appeal to other people (some will find the death app in bad taste for example but would love the humour of the granny app) and the wider audiences you pull in the more ad revenue you will make.
